With the experience of someone who closely follows the field and the producers, he shares with us a technical suggestion for this season, dedicated to a crop with great significance in the region: cabbage.
Cabbages: an essential crop in autumn and winter
The cultivation of brassicas, or cruciferous vegetables, more commonly known as cabbage, is one of the most important agricultural, social, and economic activities in the central region of the country.
“In the West, cabbages have a huge weight — they are grown practically all year round, but it is in autumn and winter that they gain more area and more demand, both for the national market and for export”, explains Pedro Calhas.
Because these are demanding crops, especially under conditions of higher humidity and lower temperatures, it is essential to invest in solutions that promote vigor and productivity, while also ensuring protection against diseases that are common during this season.

After planting: strengthen protection and early development
In the first days after planting, it is essential to help the crop overcome transplant stress and start vigorous growth.
“A few days after planting, I recommend using Trichosym Bio, which helps the plant get off to a stronger start and naturally protect itself against soil-borne fungi”, says the consultant.
Trichosym Bio is a biofertilizer based on Trichoderma harzianum (strain T78), classified as a zero-waste product and authorized for use in organic farming.
Among its main advantages are:
- Reinforcement of vigor and stress resistance;
- Increased productive yield;
- Improvement of nutrient absorption through better rooting;
- Action as a natural antagonist to fungi such as Botrytis, Fusarium and Sclerotinia.
Application can be done after transplanting or even on the tray, contributing to greater cultural protection from the start.
At the same time, and with the aim of promoting root development and vegetative growth, Pedro Calhas also recommends applying Algaman B.
“Algaman B helps stimulate both root growth and foliage development, ensuring that the plant establishes itself in a balanced and healthy way,” he says.
Regenerate the soil before top fertilization
Before the fertilizer top-dressing, the consultant recommends starting the process with Vitasoil, a natural active complex composed of microorganisms beneficial to the soil, specifically Azotobacter spp. and Azospirillium spp..
“Vitasoil is a very useful tool for regenerating the soil’s microbial life and improving its natural fertility. By reactivating the microbiota, we create a healthier foundation for crop nutrition”, the consultant emphasizes.
When applied through irrigation, Vitasoil helps restore the soil’s biological balance, enhancing nutrient availability and stimulating root development from the very earliest stages.
Micronutrients: balance and healthy growth
In addition to the main macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium), it is essential to ensure a balanced supply of micronutrients, which are indispensable for the uniform development of the plant.
Pedro explains that “to ensure this balance, I recommend applying Codamix, which can be applied either as a foliar spray or through irrigation”.
Codamix provides elements that promote photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, and the crop's tolerance to stress factors, helping the plant remain healthy and productive even under adverse conditions.
Calcium: reinforce structure and resistance
Calcium is an essential element for strengthening plant tissues and increasing the resistance of cell walls, reducing the entry of fungi and diseases.
“I recommend Calcium, whose calcium content is enhanced by MCT technology, allowing for faster and more effective absorption”, emphasizes Pedro Calhas.
The adequate presence of this element contributes to greater firmness, resistance, and durability of the crop throughout the cycle.
Health and preventive care
In periods of high humidity, fungal and bacterial diseases can compromise the crop.
“At this point, I’d like to highlight Baslact Plus and Greenbot, both approved for use in organic farming, which are solutions that provide both preventive and curative protection against fungi such as downy mildew, Alternaria, and Botrytis, as well as bacteria such as Xanthomonas”, the consultant emphasizes.
These solutions can be applied individually, but their combined use enhances effectiveness, providing more comprehensive and consistent protection.
